Hallucinogenic Plants

Hallucinogenic plants are characterized by the content of specific compounds with psychoactive effects. These substances uniquely influence cognitive processes and enable inducing changes in consciousness. Plants containing these compounds are commonly found in nature, and some of them can also be encountered in Poland. Many of them have been placed under statutory state control, which means they can only be used for research and scientific purposes.

What are hallucinogenic plants?

Plants with hallucinogenic properties are a constant subject of scientific interest, largely due to their potential therapeutic properties. A special group of organisms containing psychoactive substances also includes mushrooms, such as the psilocybin-rich Cuban psilocybe (Psilocybe cubensis). While possessing it in Poland is illegal, it is fully legal to obtain access to mycelium and easily study its structures under a microscope. A rich offer of grow kits with various varieties of hallucinogenic mushrooms can be found in our online store Shroom.it, where seeds of many plants with hallucinogenic properties are also available.

History and origin

Most identified psychoactive substances occur in plants that have been known for thousands of years. Many of them originate from Central and South America, where they played a significant role in the development of religious beliefs and philosophy of early cultures. The need for a deeper understanding and knowledge of mysterious phenomena has existed since the beginnings of civilization, which is why the consumption of psychedelic plants and mushrooms was not always accidental. Representatives of ancient cultures consumed them during various rituals, as well as for recreational purposes. Hallucinogenic substances played an important role in the development of the civilizations of Mexico and Peru, countries inhabited by the ancient Aztecs and Incas. Descriptions of plants with stimulating effects can be found in the chronicles of Spanish monks and priests who arrived in South America shortly after the conquest of these territories. Such sources are referenced, for example, in the first documented attempts to use plants such as peyote or Morning Glory.

Main applications

In the past, plants with psychoactive effects were used in various religious ceremonies. Most often, extracts and powdered parts of various species were used for this purpose, many of which were considered sacred. Plants were eaten raw, as well as prepared with the intention of making sacramental drinks or infusions. Over time, hallucinogenic substances began to be used more widely, not only in the form of direct consumption but also by smoking or applying to the nose. According to specialists, the defining feature of compounds with such effects is their ability to induce states that alter perception, sensations, and thoughts. These properties are very strong in the case of some plants, which is why they currently raise many controversies and doubts. In our online store, you will find only legal products that can be used solely for educational and hobby purposes. We also offer specialized accessories in the form of grow bags, microboxes, or thermometers.

What characterizes hallucinogenic plants?

Hallucinogenic plants act in very diverse ways, which depend on their origin and various unique properties. The symptoms caused by their use are primarily divided into somatic, perceptual, and psychological. Substances with hallucinogenic effects can cause changes in the perception of colors and shapes, sharpen senses, and allow for experiencing many sensations simultaneously. Compounds contained in such plants also affect emotional state, sense of time, perception of various phenomena, and the way of expressing thoughts. In many cases, various visual hallucinations also occur.
