Psilocybe cubensis spores

Psilocybe cubensis spores are the reproductive cells of this interesting mushroom species. Their natural development process takes place in special closed structures called sporangia, which crack open upon reaching maturity. This way, they release reproductive cells to the outside, which are then transported to other locations by wind, water, or other living organisms. Spores of individual varieties of this mushroom differ slightly from each other, including in their developmental conditions.

What distinguishes Psilocybe cubensis spores?

Psilocybe cubensis spores are small, single-cell structures that are oblong or ellipsoidal in shape. Due to their unique microscopic features, they are fundamental in identifying mushrooms of this species. In Poland, their cultivation is illegal due to the presence of psychoactive psilocybin. However, psilocybin is not present in the Psilocybe cubensis mycelium itself, which is a common subject of mycological research and microbiological observations. In our Shroom.it online store, we offer plants, seeds, as well as grow kits containing various strains of this species. Their purchase is fully legal, provided that fruiting bodies are not allowed to develop. Liquid cultures of selected strains, which you can also find in our assortment, are also legal.

Identification and occurrence

Psilocybe cubensis, also known as the Cuban psilocybe, belongs to the group of agarics. Due to its coprophilic nature, it naturally grows on animal dung. Most often, they colonize the manure of large herbivores, which is why they occur near cow, sheep, or goat pastures. This is largely due to the low stomach acid content in these animals' feces, which facilitates germination. The spores of these mushrooms prefer humid areas but can also develop in tropical or subtropical environments. Depending on the strain, Psilocybe cubensis occurs in Ecuador, Colombia, Thailand, Cambodia, India, and Argentina, among others. These mushrooms can actually be found on virtually all continents, except Antarctica.

Properties and characteristics

Psilocybe cubensis are saprotrophic fungi, therefore they are classified as heterotrophic organisms and obtain energy from organic remains by breaking them down into simple compounds. The mycelium produced by individual strains is highly rhizomorphic. In our online store, you will find grow kits containing their mycelium. These include: Golden Teacher, B+, Malabar, Mazatapec, McKenaii, Ecuadorian, Colombian, Cambodian, Thai, and Mexican. Their spores are characterized by smooth and thick-walled prints, and their color can be dark brown or almost black. Mature Psilocybe cubensis specimens draw attention with their veil, which has a bumpy surface. As the spores fall, the thin and delicate ring on the stem darkens.

How can one legally possess Psilocybe cubensis spores?

You can legally buy and store Psilocybe cubensis spores. This means that the products with mycelium we offer are fully legal. The only condition is not to allow the development of fruiting bodies, which contain psilocybin. For this reason, spores must not be mixed with sterilize
