Cultivation of Magic Mushrooms

1844 Views

Cultivation of hallucinogenic mushrooms is illegal in Poland, which largely stems from their specific psychedelic properties. Legal regulations also prohibit the possession and sale of specified species from this group. The presence of psilocybin and other chemical compounds means that, according to the law, such mushrooms cannot be cultivated. However, their mycelia do not contain any prohibited substances, so their sale for hobby and mycological purposes is permitted.

What is hallucinogenic mushroom cultivation?

Hallucinogenic mushroom cultivation is a complex process consisting of numerous stages leading to the final development of fruiting bodies. While it is not legal to carry out the full cultivation cycle on your own in Poland, collectors, researchers, and other mycology enthusiasts can familiarize themselves with the specifics of individual species by cultivating and observing mycelium. It does not contain psilocybin or other prohibited substances, therefore it constitutes a safe and interesting object for microscopic research. In our Shroom.it online store, we offer mycelium in the form of grow kits, which are sets containing substrate and necessary accessories. In this form, you can observe numerous varieties of the popular Cuban psilocybe - Psilocybe cubensis, including Malabar, B+, Golden Teacher, Mazatapec, Mexican, Cambodian, Colombian, Thai, McKennaii or Ecuadorian.

Research and observations

Hallucinogenic mushrooms possess many characteristic physical features that are a valuable source of information for mycologists. The most specific include the conical and wide structure of the cap, which, depending on the variety, can be bell-shaped or oval. Its size increases as the mushroom reaches subsequent maturity phases. An important feature of individual Psilocybe cubensis varieties is the veil with a bumpy surface, which gains a white-brown color turning into grayish or blue-green. These mushrooms are characterized by thick-walled and smooth spore prints, usually almost black or dark brown in color. Observers can also note specifically attached gills, which greatly depart from the cap surface. The white-yellow stem with a rather dry surface and a thin, delicate ring on the stipe are also noteworthy. The latter may change color during the period of spore dropping.

Natural development

Psilocybin mushrooms in nature often occur in pastures of cows, sheep, goats, and other large herbivorous mammals. Individual varieties of Psilocybe cubensis are coprophilous, and thus adapted to develop in animal feces. This specific feature results from the very low content of gastric acids in dung, which translates into faster and more effective germination of the Cuban psilocybe. Generally, the occurrence of these mushrooms is greatest in relatively humid areas, due to suitable living conditions. However, in nature, they also appear in tropical or subtropical environments. Depending on the variety, hallucinogenic mushrooms can be found in India, Thailand, Cambodia, Colombia, Ecuador, or Argentina, among others.

Is hallucinogenic mushroom cultivation illegal everywhere?

Hallucinogenic mushroom cultivation is prohibited not only in Poland but also in many other European Union member countries and around the world. In some countries, cultivation may be permissible due to slightly less restrictive laws. However, regardless
