Hallucinogenic Mushrooms

Hallucinogenic mushrooms are characterized by the presence of substances with psychedelic properties, primarily psilocybin. In Poland, it is not legally possible to possess, sell, or cultivate them, which is influenced by the classification that takes into account the presence of chemical compounds with psychedelic effects. However, the spores of hallucinogenic species do not contain psilocybin themselves, therefore they can be possessed for collector's and observational purposes.

What characterizes hallucinogenic mushrooms and their individual species?

Hallucinogenic mushrooms are primarily species containing psilocybin, which is why they are referred to as psilocybin mushrooms. This group includes various types of Psilocybe. Their mycelia are available in the assortment of our online store Shroom.it. In Poland, you can legally buy and store them as long as you don't allow the actual development of fruiting bodies. Our online store offers special grow kits, which are complete sets of accessories for hobbyists and researchers. Numerous varieties are available, such as Golden Teacher, Psilocybe cubensis B+, Cambodian, Ecuadorian, Mexican, or Maztapec.

Appearance characteristics

A characteristic feature of these types of mushrooms is a cap with a wide and conical structure, which, depending on the variety, has an oval or bell-like shape. As P. cubensis develops and gradually matures, its size increases. A specific indicator of mature specimens is the bumpy surface of the veil, as well as a brown-white coloration transitioning to green-blue or grayish. Spores, on the other hand, are characterized by smooth and thick-walled prints, which are usually dark brown or almost black in color. The distinguishing features of these mushrooms also include attached gills, often extending from the surface of the cap itself. The stem is usually quite dry and white-yellow, while the veil is muddy and white or bluish. The delicate and thin ring on the stipe, which darkens during spore dropping, is also noteworthy.

Growth possibilities

P. cubensis are coprophilous mushrooms, so this species reproduces on animal feces. Their various strains very often colonize the dung of large herbivorous animals found in pastures of cows, goats, or sheep. These mushrooms usually prefer rather moist habitats but can also occur in tropical or subtropical conditions. Depending on the variety, they naturally develop in the valleys of Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina, as well as in the wild environments of Cambodia, Thailand, and India. The living conditions of most of these mushrooms are humid, and their coprophilous nature is associated with the specific properties of herbivorous mammal feces. The dung of these animals has a low gastric acid content, which facilitates and accelerates germination.

Cultivation requirements

Most mushrooms belonging to this group are relatively easy to cultivate. P. cubensis produce rhizomorphic mycelium, which can develop on many substrates without a casing layer. Individual varieties are resistant to various temperatures, but usually prefer relatively low ones. Cultivation is most effective in environments characterized by high air humidity. The mushrooms can be grown on substrates made from <a href="https://shroom.it/en/12-seeds" rel="noopener" target="_
